The puppies
whelped at Trout Creek are gently handled and observed many times
each day from birth until they leave for their new homes. Our
family and friends handle the puppies for the first three weeks.
By the fourth week, the puppies are meeting several new people each
day, being exposed to different locations on the farm, walking on
several different surfaces, and spending some time each day in a
play area which includes tunnels, hanging toys, a teeter-totter, a
swing, and open crates. We spend many hours each day observing
and handling each puppy and making notes. By eight weeks, the
puppies have been on several car rides, exposed to all of our other
dogs and farm animals. By eight weeks of age they have met at
least 50 different people and have been introduced to a wide variety
of sights and sounds and are well prepared to make the transition
into their new homes. The puppies are temperament tested
between seven and eight weeks and then evaluated for structure and
breed type at eight weeks. The puppies are placed according to
the best matches between their temperaments and personalities and
the needs of the family based on many conversations during the weeks
prior to placement. I feel that it is extremely important to
match the right puppy with the right family and encourage potential
puppy owners to be totally honest with me and with themselves about
what they are looking for in an adult dog. Adding a GSMD to
your family is a commitment for the life of the dog! |

Socialization is very important for all puppies. Wade and Hanna are glad to help with the process. |

Procedures for Obtaining a Puppy from Trout Creek I encourage those who are considering a Swissy to contact and visit with as many breeders as possible and not limit themselves to local breeders only. After visiting several breeders, choose one or two that you feel have the priorities that you are looking for. It is important to work with a breeder that you are totally comfortable with and that will be available to you for the entire life of your Swissy I interview prospective puppy owners to determine if my priorities and what I produce are what they are looking for. If not, I refer them to other breeders. I encourage those who are interested in my breeding program to stay in touch. Continued contact and conversations help me determine if I have the right puppy for the specific home. I do not make final decisions until after eight weeks and the puppies have been temperament tested and had their structural evaluations.
I will occasionally
place a puppy as breeding/show quality but most are placed as
pet/companions on spay neuter contracts. The reason being that I
want only exceptional quality from my kennel being shown and/or used in a
breeding program. Once again, thank
you for visiting my website and investigating my breeding program. I
welcome all inquiries and will do my best to answer any questions that you
may have. Good luck in your search for the right dog for you!
